Massachusetts Department of Public Safety requires all operators be licensed when the machine they

There are currently four classes of Hoisting Licenses in Massachusetts:
- Class I-Hoisting: Includes tower cranes, mobile cranes, Lulls, and forklifts.
- Class II-Excavating: Includes excavators, backhoes, and loaders.
- Class III-Air and Electric: Overhead bridge and gantry cranes
- Class IIII-Specialty Equipment: Includes concrete pump trucks, catch basin cleaners, specialty lawn mowers and sign hanging equipment.
